That is a tall order for tne and invites comparison jefc criticism and an almost foregone conclusion that he is not his father and his work is not on par with his father.

He relates what he believes was said, based on his rusing of history, the men, how they spoke, their grammar, their breeding, education, beliefs, and their frustrations. Learned a lot of things I didn’t know.

Likely to appeal to younger readers, but World War II buffs and adult fans of historical fiction will expect more. Feb 27, Tim rated it really liked it.

Looking for More Great Reads? I have never read another book by Shaara, so I wonder if he tells the rest of the Italy campaign. Jeff Shaara like his father Michael write excellent historical fiction. Also in World War II.

Whenever I read his work I often get immersed to the point that I feel that I am almost there. Atop the chain was a man who’d sat out the last war entirely and who, despite jerf lack of combat experience, was to deftly glue the various Allied factions into a more or less cohesive unit.
