Still the writing was good, and Stanley Tucci did a credible reading of them each. It left me cringing and otherwise physically affected. Another entry by Leuane, instead of the play, would have resulted in giving it a five star rating. Within three pages of the story “Running Out of Dog” I was hooked in horror. I just thought they weren’t as fleshed out as the other stories coonado, like Lehane was trying to finish the story before it was ready to be done.


I wish Lehane had been a little more clear at least in that case. Strangely enough the story that had a measure of hope in it was called “ICU” and there’s an actual moment of grace in the coronaado “Mushrooms.

Fortunately, Lehane has written several novels doronado I enjoyed, so it was not a complete loss for him. Player Ddennis Productions is dedicated to honoring the art of theatre by challenging its very nature.

Lehane has tried his hand at writing a play only once, with questionable results. A compromised psychiatrist confronts the unstable patient he slept with. It’s “In Cold Blood” meets Dorchester, every day. There aren’t any cliches in his writing and it is typically full of vibrant prose and deep revelations into the human spirit.

Picked this book of short stories off my to-read shelf last night. One of the best short stories I’ve ever read is in this collection: Strangely enough, I liked this one most. Anyway, I realized that I’d confused Lehane with another South Boston writer and was probably just terrified because I’ve seen the movies Mystic Okay, there’s a snow storm and I have to go to my book shelf.

The play, “Coronado,” is simply a re-telling of the “Until Gwen” story, altered for the stage. Still, there are lots of moments of pure poetry to be found here, and Lehane remains one of our generation’s greatest literary observers of the human condition.

And it’s not that there’s anything wrong with the other stories in the book, but they aren’t Gwen that first reading coroonado Gwen in particular so they cannot win my heart. At turns suspenseful, surreal, romantic, and tragically comic, these tales journey headlong into the heart of our national myths about class, gender, freedom, and regeneration through violence and reveal that the truth waiting for us there is not what we’d expect.

Lehane’s writing is fantastic as usual, but most of the stories here are fairly lackluster and almost fragmentary. Nevertheless, with its tightly-constructed and intricate narrative, Coronado is an interesting experiment and this critic recommends the experience.

It is an unusual action on my part because I am fond of Lehane’s writing and characters dejnis I try not to discard a book unread. I hate trapeze artists.

Gone Down to Corpus: It quickly becomes apparent that Bobby’s father has retrieved him only to find out where the heist loot is hidden, lehaane Bobby, in turn, needs to know what happened to his girlfriend, Gwen.
